December 31st New Year's Eve

Should we meet for some reflection time?

Perhaps we can use a theme around "New Year's Values: Faith, Love, and Hope"

Live by faith

Be Known by love

Serve as a Voice of Hope for Others

Theme: Living a life in community, following up on the message of December 3rd. That we have been created for so much more.
Main ideas - "Communities" exist everywhere. We are a part of many of these "communities." We are born into community. We are born for a particular community.

Uncommon Commune, December 17th

1 Corinthians 14-27
14 Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18 But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
19 If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!"
22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.
26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Messenger: Stephen
Songs: - A little help here. . . Dan?
Prayer: - One of the thrusts of this will be the idea that community forms around something be it an idea or a person or a place. Christian community forms around Christ. That being so faithful prayers from Christians from all times and places are prayers of the community and have been said for the community. I think it would be cool to have prayers from communities past and present throughout. They don't have to be in English either and it would be cool if we had some that weren't. Help here would be nice too, does anyone have any prayers they are particularly fond of?
Creative Elements: I'd like to have more prayers available than are prayed during the service - with a date/location/originator so that during response time or afterward people can browse them. This is all I have at the moment - anyone have any other ideas? I have some ideas of an interactivity or two in the back of my brain but they aren't fully formulated yet.
Response Time: 2.3 seconds if I'm fully awake.

Theme: Living a life of mission, following up on the message of December 3rd. That we have been created for so much more.

Unexpected Surprises, December 10th

Matthew 1:18-24... "24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name of Jesus."

Key Points of a missional life seen in Joseph: Discerning, Obedient, Self-denial. I will also be fleshing out characteristics of a carpenter. Any thoughts of using something at the response time that would tie back into this thought line would be helpful.

Messenger: Eric

Songs:

Prayer

Creative Elements:  Mission is an action word, so I thought it might be cool to have stations set up around the room behind curtains that everyone can walk through.  (The curtains will circle around the actual worship gathering and then the stations can be set up behind those curtains, outside of the circle.  I'll e-mail you a picture of what this will look like.)  One station might have an action response related to mission, one might just be for reflection on what self-denial looks like, one station could be reading through a prayer geared toward obedience, etc.  After I talk to Erik B. and fill out these ideas, I'll get back to you!  Thx, Jackie
